About MAW

I’m a middle-aged woman (MAW) wanting to live a full and vibrant life –looking my best, feeling my best, and having a hell of a lot of fun while doing it. This blog began as a fashion and style blog, as I wanted to stop looking like someone’s mom and start looking like, well, me. And since I didn’t really have a “style” at the time (I was about 45), I learned how fun it could be to develop one, and to learn to express myself physically depending on how I felt each day.

I wrote some more about middleaged fashion and style, adding some anecdotes about life as a middleaged woman, which was even more fun. Then, a friend of mine told me, “I love your blog, but you need to stop writing about fashion and start writing about getting hormone injections in your butt,” by which she meant (I’m pretty sure) that what MAWs want to read about is what it means to be a middleaged woman in today’s world (which includes, but certainly is not limited to, style and fashion).

  
I am compelled to add — actually, I’m being forced to add by the child sitting next to me at the moment — that I have a beautiful and style-savvy 15-year-old daughter who shares my passion for fashion (oh, God, that’s terrible), and she wants me to mention her. I talk about her and her opinions quite a bit, and she’s a lot of fun to write about (see how many times I’ve mentioned fun? I love fun). So I’ll try to do so without sounding too much like a bragging mother and only when I think it really adds something to the conversation. (By the way, I also have a great husband and 13-year-old son, but they specifically request that I NOT write about them, so I don’t mention them too often, much as I adore and love them desperately.)

So, I’m evolving, with help from my readers, and always love to read your comments and thoughts about what you’d like me to write about.

    Hi, MAW! Thrilled to see you using that term; either “great minds think alike,” or it’s “trending,” or both! I am so inspired by your achievements. I’m on the path that you’ve successfully travelled, having just cracked the 200lb. barrier and am now down to 198, which as I’m sure you remember is a transcendent moment. I’ve got my fitbit on, eating healthy, standing instead of sitting and dancing instead of standing, which does look odd when I’m waiting in line at Walmart, but who cares? One of the wonderful things about aging is you stop caring about what other people (except the ones important to you) think! Anyway, I’ve got 50lbs to go, and YOU, fellow MAW, are my inspiration!

      Thank you so much for commenting. I love to hear that you’re finding something useful and inspiring here. You may not have read in a recent post that I have gained back much of the weight I lost, so I’m back to traveling the path you’re on. I love to hear about you dancing in line at Walmart! I used to do squats and toe raises when in line at places but haven’t done that in awhile. You’re inspiring me to get back on track. Congrats on your achievement and keep it up! I’d love to hear from you on what works and what doesn’t in these pages…and to hear from you about your progress, as well!
