You know what’s exciting, in a Christmas-y kind of way? Getting a box in the mail, a box full of clothes that you will probably love and that will probably be in your size but that you have no idea what is in there (I apparently wasn’t up to the challenge of that grammatically tricky sentence). Anyway, that exciting Christmas feeling is what I got with my first box from Stitch Fix. I promise, this is not an ad or a sponsored article. I wish it was, and that Stitch Fix would pay me. In free Fixes. (Stitch Fix people, hint hint…) Continue reading →
Finally got to shop with Nordstrom Liz again — she moved to a more distant Nordstrom a year or so ago and I hadn’t gone to see her since the move. Friday night I took Lizzie and a bunch of her friends. We had dinner with Nordstrom Liz and then tried on a bunch of clothes in the fancy, large dressing rooms that Liz had put together for us. I could hear the girls giggling and trying on clothes and hats and boots, while I shopped and got some fashion advice from Liz. For example: Continue reading →
I was so excited when Jennifer asked me to do a blog post for her with five fashion tips for Spring. I met Jennifer in January, and I have LOVED seeing her style transform from jeans and a t-shirt to a polished boho chic mom.
Before I launch into my five fashion tips, Jennifer asked me to write a short bio about myself. A lot of people ask me how I became a Personal Stylist, and everyone assumes that I must have studied fashion or had some glamorous job that landed me to my current position. But the truth is that I stumbled into this job. After graduating with my degree in Spanish Linguistics and Spanish Literature from CU, I quickly found out that the jobs I was qualified for sounded monotonous and boring, and I wanted more. I have always believed that if I have to devote 40 hours of my life every week to something, I HAVE to be happy doing it.
Tried to give this outfit a little more flair and dimension by adding the denim vest, but I think it might have looked better without it… My Trouvé leather jacketwould have looked great with it but it was a little too warm.
Darn, I had to take Michael to the Apple Store today, and the closest one is at the mall where Nordstrom Liz works. It was a bummer, but I tried to deal with it gracefully. After Michael took his broken ipod (the jack was broken, and even though he had dropped it and the screen was cracked, and it was eight months old, they gave him a brand new one), I went and met with Liz. It’s kind of pathetic, actually, but I’ve been getting a little down on myself for my outfit choices lately, which means I’m taking this crap waaay too seriously. So I vowed to relax and take this journey as it comes, and guess what? I had a realization which none of you will likely find surprising but which was big news to me. Ready? This journey is exactly that: a journey. If I already knew everything about fashion, I wouldn’t have anything to write about! I’m exploring, learning, and having fun.
So, here are five things I’ve learned about myself and my style so far: Continue reading →
Kids are at a movie with Paul and I have the house to myself, which never happens on a weekend. I spent the first hour folding laundry, and then thought, “what the heck am I doing?” So now I’m on the couch with a book and my blog.
Today’s outfit (but I’m not wearing the shoes anymore because they’re not made for couch-sitting):
Last night I was sitting on the couch having a margarita and hanging out with the kids – I was actually working on this post until Lizzie grabbed my iPad and started searching keywords like “vicious casowaries” and “how to keep children as a pet” – when I got a text from a friend: “You’re going to book club, right?” Whoops, I had totally forgotten, so I wrote back saying I was hanging out on the couch and it had slipped my mind. She didn’t give me a choice, just wrote back saying, “I’ll pick you up in five minutes.” So off I went, in the above outfit (which I was already wearing, I didn’t even have time to change…)
